COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State University is moving all in-person classes online beginning Friday night because of concerns about the surge in COVID-19 coronavirus cases. The change takes effect at 6 p.m. Friday, according to an email sent Thursday to students, faculty and staff by Ohio State President Kristina Johnson. The decision comes on the same day that Franklin County, where OSU is located, became the first county in the state to be designated “purple,” the highest alert level for the coronavirus. “This is a moment for every Buckeye to help turn the tide,” Johnson says in the email. Johnson says all in-person classes will be online or other forms of remote instruction. There are exceptions for in-person instruction for clinical programs, as well as laboratory, studio and performance classes. Those classes must meet approved safety protocols.
