Derrick Davis Jr., Ohio State football target, commits to LSU: Buckeyes Recruiting


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football 2021 defensive back target Derrick Davis Jr. of Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pa., has committed to LSU. The four-star recruit rated as the No. 53 player and No. 2 safety in the country chose the Tigers over the Buckeyes, Clemson, Georgia, Pittsburgh, Penn State and USC. This a significant recruiting loss for head coach James Franklin and his staff, as they’ve watched the rest of the country raid their backyard the past two cycles. Penn State hasn’t landed a player ranked inside the top 150 from Pennsylvania since Micah Parsons and Zach Kuntz in 2018. Meanwhile, the state has had eight players ranked as such in the last two years. Three have ended up as Buckeyes in Julian Fleming (2020), Kyle McCord and Marvin Harrison Jr. (2021), while others have gone to Clemson, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin.
