COLUMBUS, Ohio — One statistic fully explains the disparity between Ohio State football and Rutgers since the latter joined the Big Ten Conference in 2014. Those Big Ten East Division members have played six times. The Buckeyes have never scored fewer than 49 points in any of those games. The Scarlet Knights’ point total in all six of those games? Only 48 points. So the Buckeye Talk crew was a bit puzzled why the point spread did not grow much from its opening line of 37. As of Thursday night, Ohio State was favored by only 38 points. Perhaps bettors were influenced by Rutgers’ season-opening road win at Michigan State and a competitive loss to 2-0 Indiana.
