STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Ohio State football’s defense took uncertain, uneasy, and unintimidating first steps in the early minutes of a season-opening victory over Nebraska. In its second outing against Penn State, the Buckeye defense declared it could set a tone, as well. Led by career-best performances on the defensive line, Ohio State harassed its biggest Big Ten East nemesis in their own building Saturday night. The Buckeyes dominated the first half and held on for a 38-25 victory. Justin Fields was nearly as precise as in his almost-perfect opener, and more explosive. He threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns and kept finding Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson behind the Penn State defense. Master Teague topped 100 yards and the running game produced more punch.
