Michigan football fan sentenced for threat against Ohio State

A purported Michigan football fan was sentenced to one year and a day of prison by Federal Judge Algenon Marbley on Tuesday, for a threat of violence made towards Ohio State University in 2018. Daniel Rippy, of Livermore, Ca., a Michigan native and University of Michigan fan, used Facebook Messenger as a means to threaten a shooting at Ohio State University during its annual rivalry game against the Michigan Wolverines, vowing to specifically hurt players on the Buckeyes football team and then-head coach Urban Meyer, authorities report. Tuesday’s sentencing was conducted via video conference due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
