Why Ohio State football’s running backs and defensive ends underwhelmed against Nebraska


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Inside Ohio State football’s 52-17 shellacking of Nebraska on Saturday lurked areas of concern moving forward. The Buckeye coaches expressed full confidence in the running back duo of Master Teague and Trey Sermon. They combined for 96 yards on 23 carries, including a pair of touchdown runs for Teague. Yet neither player really found much traction, though it should also be noted both were returning from injury and had faced long layoffs since their last game action. That was especially true for Sermon, who did not finish his 2019 with Oklahoma due to a knee injury. Teague impressed simply by returning to full strength this fall after suffering a torn Achilles tendon on the opening day of spring practice.
