Ohio State football’s defense needs playmakers, and Sevyn Banks stepped up first: Nathan Baird’s observations


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three observations from Ohio State football’s 52-17 win over Nebraska on Saturday. 1. Sevyn Banks’ older brother, Marcell Harris, told me the Ohio State football cornerback would really show what he could do with the ball in his hands in 2020. Harris has some authority here. He starred at Florida prior to his current job, as a safety with the San Francisco 49ers. He has watched Banks develop from Pop Warner on up. The Buckeyes need playmakers on defense. A year ago they overflowed with them. Saturday, few obvious candidates jumped to the forefront. Banks’ 55-yard scoop-and-score touchdown return was one of the few exceptions in a 52-17 victory. Credit Pete Werner, as well, for stripping loose the fumble that led to Banks’ opportunity.
