New Ohio State slot receiver Garrett Wilson is already creating matchup problems: Doug Lesmerises’ observations


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three things on my mind from Ohio State’s season-opening win over Nebraska on Saturday by the score of 52-17. 1. Garrett Wilson’s move to the slot opens up so much for this Ohio State offense, and the results Saturday have me as enthused as when Ryan Day and the Buckeyes first announced the move in the spring. Wilson (seven catches for 129 yards) and outside receiver Chris Olave (six catches for 104 yards) are going to present problems for defenses that won’t be able to rely on dealing with them one-on-one. There will be zones and unexpected looks and safety help. But the most intriguing move will be when Day and the OSU offensive staff start adjusting to the adjustments. Against Nebraska, the top two guys did all the damage. Six other Buckeyes combined for seven catches and 43 yards. But if defenses focus on Olave outside…
