Haskell Garrett’s improbable return headlines Ohio State football’s players of the game against Nebraska


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Who would have expected Haskell Garrett to play at all on Oct. 24 after he suffered a gunshot wound to the face in late August? Fewer still would have predicted the senior defensive tackle would have turned in a pivotal performance. Garrett, however, made one of the biggest defensive plays of the first half and helped spark the Buckeyes’ 52-17 victory over Nebraska. Garrett’s presence surpassed emotional boost alone, and Ohio State named him its defensive player of the game from the season-opening win. Garrett sacked Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez late in the first half. That led to a punt soon after, which set up another touchdown and a 24-14 OSU lead at halftime.
