Ohio State football’s players and coaches admit it was “weird” playing in an empty stadium but need to adjust


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Quarterback Justin Fields admitted that it was a little bit of an adjustment playing in an empty stadium during Ohio State football’s 52-17 win over Nebraska. Part of being an athlete at this level is feeding off of the energy a home crowd gives you or silencing an opponent’s fanbase when on the road. Playing in front of 1,344 people and 4,770 cardboard cutouts isn’t an easy adjustment. The Buckeyes have been preparing for this reality for weeks with Saturday scrimmages inside Ohio Stadium, but you can only adjust to the new surroundings so much. “It was definitely weird,” Fields said. “I was looking up to the stands to celebrate with some fans, but nobody was really out there.
