With virus lingering, Ohio State must build depth behind Fields

The nature of college football during the Coronavirus pandemic requires that coaches develop depth at every position on the field. If a Big Ten player tests positive for the virus, that player must sit out for 21 days. There is no exception for “star players,” meaning that Ohio State – in particular – must develop a plan in case quarterback Justin Fields were to miss one or more games for whatever reason. “We have talked about it here during the preseason that at any moment you could lose several guys for an extended period of time,” OSU coach Ryan Day said during a recent interview. “With the new protocol that has come through, if somebody tests positive they aren’t able to play for 21 days.
