Ohio State football’s defense faces big questions, and Kerry Coombs sees answers within reach


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Having recruited Shaun Wade back to Ohio State football a second time, defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs can turn his focus back to the less-certain aspects of his side of the ball. Wade still had not cleared COVID-19 protocol as of the start of Tuesday’s practice. Coombs called that delay merely “part of the process.” He is not concerned that the preseason All-American will face any NCAA eligibility barriers returning to the team after initially announcing he would forego the season to train for the 2021 NFL Draft. With under five weeks remaining before the Buckeyes’ Oct. 24 season opener against Nebraska, however, Coombs and his staff must still address several questions.
