Clemson football tops Associated Press Top 25 as Ohio State and Big Ten wait another week: College rankings


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Clemson football received all but two No. 1 votes in the Associated Press Top 25 released Sunday. Will the Tigers give some of them back to Ohio State next week? The Buckeyes and the rest of the Big Ten were ineligible again this week. The AP said it wanted to give voters time to assess the new league schedule, release Saturday, and learn more about the status of players who might be retracting their decision to opt out. Ohio State will be eligible again for the Sept. 27 poll. The No. 2 team in the preseason poll, the Buckeyes received 18 first-place votes. Clemson took all of those back in the first regular-season poll. (Defending national champion LSU, which opens its season on Saturday, continues to receive one misguidedly symbolic vote.)
