With Ohio State and the Big Ten ineligible, Clemson tops watered-down Associated Press Top 25: College rankings


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s position as the No. 2 team in college football ended Sunday, as the Buckeyes and all other teams not scheduled to play were ineligible for the first Associated Press Top 25 poll of the 2020 season. Could the Buckeyes resume that ranking as early as next week? The Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors is scheduled to meet today to hear a presentation from the medical committee and others about a potential safe return for games this fall during the coronavirus pandemic. Ohio State had appeared in the top 25 for 132 consecutive weeks, since the beginning of the 2012 season. Clemson took the No. 1 spot in the first poll conducted since teams began playing games.
