Ohio State President Kristina M. Johnson ’very hopeful’ Big Ten can play football in late fall


COLUMBUS, Ohio — No one was surprised Monday when Ohio State was revealed as one of the three Big Ten schools that voted against canceling the fall sports season on Aug. 11. President Kristina M. Johnson told WCMH NBC 4 on Tuesday that she also has not given up on the Buckeyes playing football this fall despite the coronavirus pandemic. Johnson pointed out that fall technically lasts until late December. However, she said she remains hopeful that the Big Ten can figure out a plan for football before the end of the calendar year, as opposed to a winter season in the second semester. “The kinds of things we’ve learned about how we can have what’s called a clean field — players on the field that are negative, that can play — that we can play football,” Johnson said. “We’re working through that process.
