COLUMBUS, Ohio — Alabama’s 2021 recruiting class has added another five-star in the form of Damon Payne of Belleville High School in Michigan. The addition of the nation’s top defensive tackle and No. 14 overall player pulls the Crimson Tide even with Ohio State in five-star commits, with each having four. Payne’s decision came down to a top 10 that includes the two schools along with Arizona State, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State and USC. While the Buckeyes had the bulk of their success in 2021 during the spring, Alabama has ramped up its recruiting over the past month. Payne is the ninth player to join the nation’s No. 2 class since offensive lineman JC Latham kicked off what’s been a run of commits on June 12.
