COLUMBUS, Ohio — Chris Holtmann is getting back to the basics when it comes to recruiting for Ohio State basketball. In his first three classes, he took more of a national approach, landing players across eight states. His only two players from Ohio were Justin Ahrens in 2018 and Alonzo Gaffney — who has since transferred to junior college Northwest Florida — in 2019. That approach has changed in 2021 with a class now headlined by its latest commit in shooting guard Malaki Branham of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. The journey toward an All-Ohio recruiting class started by landing Kalen Etzler in May 2019.
