Just over a year ago, Ohio State was in a tough situation when it came to the quarterbacks. While the starter seemed clear following Justin Fields’ transfer from Georgia and the NCAA granting the sophomore immediate eligibility, the situation behind him on the depth chart looked bleak. After the announcement of Fields’ transfer, redshirt sophomore Tate Martell elected to depart the Buckeye program, eventually landing at Miami. Following spring practice, redshirt freshman Matthew Baldwin surprisingly also entered the transfer portal. In an effort to be closer to home, Baldwin enrolled at TCU. This left the Scarlet and Gray with two scholarship quarterbacks in Fields and former West Virginia graduate transfer Chris Chugunov.
