DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers started Round 2 of the 2020 MLB Draft by taking one of the country’s top college catchers. Ohio State’s Dillon Dingler was selected with the 38th overall pick. Although he measures up at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, Dingler was known for his defense and athleticism, even playing center field during his freshman season with the Buckeyes. His bat came around more slowly, but he made significant progress as a sophomore in 2019 and then got off to a blazing start this spring before baseball was shut down by the coronavirus pandemic. Both MLB and Baseball America projected that Dingler would be selected in the first 25 picks, but he fell to the second day. The slot value for the 38th pick is $1.95 million.
