Former Ohio State coach, associate AD Bill Myles passes away

Former Ohio State assistant football coach and athletic director Bill Myles passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 83. Myles was one of the Buckeye football program’s first African American assistant football coaches and worked in the Ohio State athletic department for more than 40 years. There was no cause of death provided but Myles’ health had declined in recent years, including suffering a stroke in 2014 and spending the last several weeks in the hospital battling a lung issue. Myles’ death was first reported by The Columbus Dispatch and confirmed by the university. In 1977, then-Ohio State head coach Woody Hayes hired Myles away from Nebraska to serve as the program’s offensive line coach. When Hayes was fired after the 1978 season, Myles was one of two assistants, including Glen Mason, retained under new head coach Earle Bruce.
