COLUMBUS, Ohio — C.J. Hicks will likely outgrow his current positional identity as a safety. That makes the Dayton Archbishop Alter prospect, who committed to Ohio State football on Friday, an intriguing talent to add in the early stages of a recruiting class. At 6-4, 215 pounds, Hicks is large even by college safety standards. Compare him to Josh Proctor (6-2, 202) or Jordan Fuller (6-2, 205) — and those measurements are from their college days. Yet Hicks’ underlying athleticism — combined with the physical growth expected in the next few years — give him a lot of upside as a potential Sam linebacker or the linebacker/defensive back hybrid concept that continues to lurk in the back of the Buckeyes’ long-term defensive planning.
