COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three of Ohio State athletics’ leading figures and their families stepped up to help the Mid-Ohio Foodbank fight food insecurity during the coronavirus pandemic. Football coach Ryan Day and his wife, Nina, men’s basketball coach Chris Holtmann and his wife, Lori, and athletic director Gene Smith and his wife, Sheila, are combining to donate $35,000 per month from April through August to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund. According to the Foodbank, each $1 donated results in more than $9 of groceries purchased. So the total donation of $175,000 will result in more than $1.5 million in groceries.
