Ohio State football coach Ryan Day sees an NFL solution to a Big Ten spring lost to coronavirus


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football coach Ryan Day remains hopeful his program and others will hold some sort of offseason camp to make up for what they lost due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Buckeyes and other Big Ten Conference programs are on hold through at least April 6, as the conference shut down all athletic activities. It is possible if not likely that the shutdown will extend beyond that date. When that day comes, Day said he preferred substituting a structure similar to what the NFL uses for offseason strength and conditioning or its organized team activities (OTAs). In the NFL, those OTAs involve restrictions on certain activities during certain phases of a 10-practice schedule. Only helmets and knee and elbow pads are allowed, with no live contact.
