COLUMBUS, Ohio — They must plan for a season they assume will happen, prepare for a training camp that may change, young men with adult responsibilities and sometimes child-like impulses, now on their own around the country. We’re all trying to get through this. College football players also must make sure, on their own, that they’re ready for what comes next. For everything college athletes don’t get in terms of actual salaries for their work, what they do get is structure. There are times to work out, and times to eat, and the equipment and the food is there and ready, the best of everything at major programs like Ohio State. The NCAA limits the required hours of team activities, but the peer pressure of dedication is all around you.
