COLUMBUS, Ohio — Alonzo Gaffney will not return for his sophomore season according to a report from Brian Snow of 247Sports. The 6-foot-9, 198-pound freshman is expected to pursue the professional options available to him. Gaffney is the second player from the Buckeyes’ 2019 recruiting class to leave following point guard D.J. Carton. Unlike Carton, Gaffney did not have much of a role during his freshman season playing in just 115 total minutes all season. He reached double figures once in a 76-56 win over UMass Lowell where he scored 10 points in his first action as a Buckeye. He saw action in eight Big Ten games — 17 total — scoring two points. He averaged 1.8 points and 1.4 rebounds this season while making 13 of his 23 shot attempts.
