D.J. Carton’s transfer leaves a void at point guard for Ohio State basketball


COLUMBUS, Ohio — D.J. Carton arrived last summer of the headliner of Ohio State basketball’s best recruiting class under Chris Holtmann and the first top 15 class since 2015. Less than 12 months later, he’s decided to enter the transfer portal after playing in just 20 games for the Buckeyes, where he averaged 10.4 points and 3.0 assists per game. After having possibly his best game against a Big Ten opponent with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting in a 71-59 road win over Northwestern, Carton removed himself from Ohio State’s campus. He elected to return home to Bettendorf, Iowa, to focus on improving his mental health. He would remain eligible to return as he kept up with his classwork online.
