COLUMBUS, Ohio — For some perspective on what Ohio State football has accomplished thus far with its 2021 recruiting class — 14 strong and counting — let’s take a spin around the country. Louisville received a commitment from three-star offensive guard Aaron Gunn on Tuesday night. For the Cardinals, who played in the Citrus Bowl with Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Lamar Jackson only three seasons ago, it was their first 2021 commitment. Georgia, Auburn, LSU and Oklahoma have thus far combined for 12 commitments — three apiece. Michigan and Penn State each have two pledges; none for the Wolverines in 10 months. Other than the Buckeyes, no one in the Big Ten has more commitments than Wisconsin’s nine. Yet accumulation alone does not explain the recruiting buzz around Ohio State over the past week.
