D.J. Carton to return to Ohio State, but not basketball activities


COLUMBUS, Ohio — D.J. Carton is coming back to school after stepping away from Ohio State basketball for the past five weeks to deal with his mental health. According to Adam Jardy of The Columbus Dispatch Carton will be flying back Columbus, but there is still no timetable for when he could return to team activities. “There’s a lot that has to happen before that’s even in the conversation, medically and in terms of overall health,” head coach Chris Holtmann said when asked about Carton’s status at a press conference on Wednesday. “That’s not even a consideration. … I’m hopeful that we can get him on a path toward improved health. That’s the only priority.” The freshman guard has not played since the Buckeyes’ 71-59 win over Northwestern. Through 20 games this season he was averaging 10.4 points and 3.0 assists per game.
