EAST LANSING, Michigan — Michigan State’s coaching search has landed on Cleveland native and former Ohio State assistant Mel Tucker, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman. The Lansing State Journal confirmed that report. Tucker succeeds Mark Dantonio, who surprisingly announced his retirement last week after 13 seasons. Late last week, Tucker publicly said he would stay at Colorado after being interviewed by Michigan State. Per Feldman’s report, MSU officials made a second appeal to Tucker after another former Ohio State coach, Luke Fickell, turned the Spartans down to remain at Cincinnati. Tucker, 48, has Michigan State ties. The former Wisconsin defensive back began his coaching career in 1997 as a graduate assistant under Nick Saban. Tucker went 5-7 in his first year at Colorado. The Buffaloes finished one win shy of their second bowl game in 12 seasons. Colorado’s 2020 recruiting class ranked 35th in the 247 Sports national composite.…
