COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football coaches earned nearly $3 million in team performance bonuses for winning the 2019 Big Ten championship and returning to the College Football Playoff. All 10 Buckeye assistants received bonuses based on a percentage of their base salary. Per the contract language, for winning the Big Ten championship (8.5 %), the Big Ten championship game (4.25 %) and reaching the CFP semis (21.25 %), those bonuses totaled $2,913,165 for the 2019 season. The total bonus pool could grow slightly if head coach Ryan Day meets his team GPA bonuses. Total compensation for the staff for the 2019 season reached $14,744,565, including $9,780,165 for the coordinators and assistants. Contracts for running backs coach Tony Alford, defensive line coach Larry Johnson and offensive line coach Greg Studrawa conclude on Jan. 31, so their compensation could increase under renewed contracts.
