Worst sports brawl: 1972 Minnesota-Ohio State basketball


The Sunflower Series turned gruesome Tuesday night at stately Allen Fieldhouse. The Kansas State-Kansas game ended in an ugly brawl that resulted in a variety of suspensions and a black eye for the Kansas schools, the Big 12 and college basketball itself. Are we having more brawls than ever before? Seems like it. Steelers-Browns. Nevada/Nevada-Las Vegas. KU/K-State. All in the past three months. But heck, we’ve always had sports brawls. Hockey brawls long have been a fabric of the game. Baseball brawls are not rare. NASCAR pits often have become boxing rings.
