Gophers hockey overcomes slow start to top Ohio State 6-3

Brannon McManus was sure of one thing heading into the Gophers game against Ohio State on Friday night. “It’s going to be one-goal game,” the junior winger predicted earlier this week, “like it is, like, every single time we’ve played them. So we know that.” Well, he was triple-wrong. The Gophers overcame a slow first period to score four-consecutive goals and beat the No. 6 Buckeyes 6-3 in front of an announced crowd of 7,489 at 3M Arena at Mariucci. The Gophers set a season-high for goals and improved to 9-10-4 (4-5-4-3 Big Ten) while Ohio State dropped to 15-7-3 (8-5-2-0 Big Ten). Prior to Friday, nine of the past 10 games between the Gophers and Buckeyes had been either one-goal margins or overtime decisions, including each of the past eight.
