COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football receivers coach Brian Hartline blamed his NFL background for his tendency to look at prospects based on what they cannot do. Speaking on signing day, Hartline said that is a difficult task with Jaxon Smith-Njigba. “He plays great competition,” Hartline said. “He runs great routes. He’s a smart guy. I think he understands the offense. You don’t really know until you get your hands on him. He feels really coachable.” Smith-Njigba and the other 13 early enrollees from Ohio State football’s 2020 class have been on campus for a couple of weeks. The wide receiver from Texas is still climbing the recruiting rankings, however. Smith-Njigba is now considered a five-star prospect in the 247 Sports national composite.
