COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kerry Coombs’ returns to Ohio State football after his two-year stint as the Tennessee Titans’ cornerbacks coach. The Buckeyes are getting more than an experienced defensive backs coach and a veteran who has paid his dues for a coordinator opportunity. They are also getting a fiery, energetic personality known for inspiring his players. At the 2016 Skull Session prior to a home victory over Northwestern, Coombs literally implored the crowd to “raise the roof” that day.
Coombs obviously directed that same fire back at his players, as well. Eleven Warriors caught the former special teams coordinator lighting up an unidentified kicker at a 2013 practice. “What do you need water for, sunshine,” Coombs asked the kicker in question. “We’re stretching, and you’re a kicker!”
Coombs is a self-proclaimed “nice guy,” too. Cleveland.com’s Doug Lesmerises publicly doubted Coombs’ plan to rotate cornerbacks in 2016.…
