COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State football team is bringing back Kerry Coombs as its defensive coordinator and secondary coach to replace Jeff Hafley. It will be Coombs’ second tenure on the Buckeyes’ coaching staff, as he was under Urban Meyer from 2012-17. Even after his departure, OSU still benefited from his recruiting efforts, as Coombs left behind a multiple of players in two recruiting classes ranked No. 2 in the country. The best example of that is Jeffrey Okudah in 2017, who was the top cornerback in the class as a five-star recruit. Though only playing for Coombs for one season, Okudah would go on to record 64 tackles, 18 pass breakups and three interceptions in his career. This past season he was a consensus first-team All-American and a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. He is expected to be a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft this spring.…
