COLUMBUS, Ohio — One of the enduring visuals of Ohio State football’s season-ending loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl last month was not a touchdown pass or run or emphatic tackle. It came when sophomore cornerback Shaun Wade walked from the Buckeyes’ sideline to the locker room after being ejected in the second quarter. That automatic disqualification accompanied the targeting call, which was triggered and assessed by the replay booth. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said last Wednesday that he attended the American Football Coaches Association head coaches meeting a day earlier, and targeting was a topic of conversation.
