Ohio State football’s quarterback room prepares for an offseason of growth


COLUMBUS, Ohio — A year ago at this time, Ohio State football’s quarterback room included a graduate transfer, a developmental backup and an incoming transfer barely in town long enough to identify his nearest Cane’s. That newcomer, Justin Fields, is one of the favorites to win the next Heisman Trophy. That graduate transfer, Gunnar Hoak, will soon begin his second season in the program. Yet the two players who recently unpacked their bags will again draw the most attention this spring. CJ Stroud and Jack Miller both recently enrolled to begin competing for the job of first backing up Fields, then succeeding him. Roughly 40 percent of the 60 or so questions coach Ryan Day received in Wednesday’s postseason press conference concerned quarterbacks — the players themselves, their outgoing position coach or the man who’s replacing him. Ohio State wants to go into 2020 with a less precarious quarterback situation…
