Boston College’s Jeff Hafley hires Ohio State football quality control coach Matt Thurin as special teams coordinator


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Boston College coach Jeff Hafley keeps reaching back to his one season with Ohio State football to build his first staff. Boston College announced Friday that Matt Thurin has been hired as special teams coordinator. Thurin recently completed his fifth season at Ohio State as a quality control assistant. He worked most directly with safeties and on special teams. “Matt’s knowledge of the game is as good as any coach I have been around at any level,” Hafley said in a news release. “He is an outstanding teacher and the student-athletes truly loved and respected him. He has a bright future and will be great fit to our staff and to Boston College.” Hafley spent one season as Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach before accepting the Boston College job in December.
