Where is Ohio State football on Nathan Baird’s final Associated Press Top 25 ballot? College rankings


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Beginning with Week 7 of the regular season, I began voting Ohio State football No. 1 in the Associated Press poll. My Nos. 2-3-4 votes moved around a bit between then and the end of the regular season, but my confidence that the Buckeyes deserved that No. 1 spot did not. The equation was simple — no team combined quantifiably dominant performance with strength of schedule as well as OSU. Clemson’s win over the Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl assured someone else would take over the top spot on my ballot. The only question was whether OSU could still be No. 2, pending the outcome of the Tigers’ national championship game against LSU. LSU’s 42-25 victory emphatically answered who should be No. 1. I think Ohio State might win a majority of head-to-head meetings with Clemson. But I know who won the one that actually happened, so…
