Ohio State’s Archie Griffin No. 4 on ESPN’s list of greatest college football players


NEW ORLEANS — Ohio State football’s two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin was honored Monday night alongside the greatest to ever play the game. ESPN’s counted down the final 25 on its list of the 150 greatest college football players of all time, and Griffin was ranked No. 4. The 1974 and ’75 Heisman Trophy winning running back was recognized at halftime of the College Football Playoff national championship game between Clemson and LSU at The Superdome. Griffin rushed for a school-record 5,589 yards and 26 touchdowns in his Ohio State career. He led the Buckeyes to a 40-5-1 record in his career, including four Big Ten championships and four trips to the Rose Bowl. Griffin was a three-time All-American whose No. 45 has been retired by Ohio State. Six Buckeye alums were listed when ESPN released Nos. 26-150 on the list last week.
