COLLEGE PARK – Validation is not given, only earned. Validation is what the No. 12 Maryland Terrapins got by beating the No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes on Tuesday evening. Again, it was a less than ideal offensive opening for Maryland. They fell behind 8-0 against their best opponent of the season thus far, but it did not matter. All narratives of how they could not keep up once they played an elite team with a slow start were erased. They did it with what has kept them afloat amidst some rather large deficits: their defense. Entering their game against Ohio State, Maryland was ranked 11th in adjusted defense according to KenPom. Dominating early-season wins led to that ranking.
