After J.K. Dobbins’ NFL Draft decision, Ohio State’s 2020 running back hopes rely on Master Teague and youth


COLUMBUS, Ohio — As expected, J.K. Dobbins will leave Ohio State football in pursuit of becoming the next great Buckeye back in the NFL. Dobbins came up from Texas and had the kind of superstar season and memorable career that Ryan Day and his staff can sell to future backfield recruiting targets. For 2020, however, the solution may have to come from the Buckeyes already on the roster. Master Teague put up such impressive numbers as Dobbins’ backup that he was voted third team All-Big Ten Conference. The sophomore from Tennessee averaged 5.84 yards per carry while rushing for 789 yards and four touchdowns. Teague rushed for 90 or more yards four times, including a season-high 111 against Maryland. He combined for 186 yards against Michigan State and Northwestern — at the time two highly ranked rush defenses.
