Why officials negated Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller’s fumble return touchdown in the Fiesta Bowl


GLENDALE, Arizona — Ohio State football safety Jordan Fuller seemed dazed, still unsure exactly what to say about his fumble return that wasn’t in a 29-23 Fiesta Bowl loss to Clemson. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day knew what he wanted to say, but prudently decided not to, seething in diplomatic silence. Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith spoke for all of them — an no doubt countless Buckeye fans — when he told Yahoo’s Pete Thamel via text just how ticked off he was. (Smith used a word other than ticked.) As with any controversial call, one’s perspective likely depended on which side of the partisan divide one sat.
