Dobbins was not a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He wasn’t even the Big Ten’s running back of the year. But he was the entire show early in the Fiesta Bowl. Dobbins, who was third in the nation with 1,829 rushing yards, ran for 141 yards on six carries — in the first quarter. He ripped off a 68-yarder to fuel a one-play touchdown “drive,” then added a 64-yard sprint on the last play of the period. In the process, Dobbins set an Ohio State record for rushing yards in one season, which was 2,076 and counting at halftime.
