Ohio State football left tackle Thayer Munford won the fight to stay on the field for the Fiesta Bowl


SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — There have been times this season when Ohio State left tackle Thayer Munford hasn’t looked as fluid in his movement, when maybe he slid a little stiffly to block a pass rusher, when the only returning starter on Ohio State’s offensive line wasn’t quite himself. But he was out there. That was a battle in itself. Offseason back surgery in January meant that the Buckeyes eased Munford into preseason practice in August. He’s had knee and ankle issues at times this season. He didn’t play quite as many snaps as the other offensive linemen the first two weeks of the season, and he fought through an injury to play a couple series against Northwestern when he was needed.
