How Ohio State football’s Amir Riep prepared to seize his place in the Michigan rivalry, then did it


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State football’s Amir Riep did not know for certain he would take Shaun Wade’s place at Michigan last Saturday. However, the junior reserve defensive back and special teams contributor knew a greater-than-usual possibility existed. If that opportunity unfolded — a chance the Cincinnati native called “something you dream about” — he had no intention of going in unprepared. “I was just reverting back to my training knowing I put all the hard work in for the moment to come,” Riep said. “I was ready.” Wade, listed as a game-time decision, could not play. Ohio State’s coaches tried a few defensive alignments before settling on Riep as the slot cornerback in the base defense.
