Ohio State football’s Chase Young named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s Chase Young has been named the 2019 Big Ten Nagurski–Woodson Defensive Player of the Year. The defensive end has recorded 38 total tackles, 19.5 for loss, a school-record 16.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles for the undefeated Buckeyes this season. He is the ninth Buckeye to win the award in its 29-year history. Young has arguably been the best player in college football this season. Prior to a two-game suspension for an NCAA violation, he was on pace to break Mike Vrabel’s record of 36 career sacks. The Michigan game ended an 11-game streak of recording at least 0.5 a sack. He also took home the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year Award.
