In the UConn women’s basketball team’s first true test of the season, it was senior Crystal Dangerfield who came through. Dangerfield scored eight fourth-quarter points (23 overall), including the Huskies’ last two baskets to help withstand a late Ohio State comeback effort Sunday afternoon in Columbia, with UConn ultimately pulling out a 73-62 victory. Despite struggling all day, UConn led by 11 late in the fourth quarter before the Buckeyes stormed back to pull within six with 2:24 to play, off of a three from Kierstan Bell, a UConn turnover on the ensuing inbounds play, and a layup. A running bank shot from Dangerfield with the shot clock expiring made it an eight-point game with 1:49 remaining, before the senior scored on a layup with 46 seconds left to end the Buckeyes’ threat.
