COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State University president Michael Drake will retire from the position in 2020, after serving five years in the position. In a university announcement on Thursday, Drake, 69, said the timing is “right for Ohio State and his family.” He will remain on Ohio State’s faculty and will lead the university through the end of the academic year. Drake has spent the past 15 years as a university chancellor or president, arriving from the University of California, Irvine, in 2014. “Ohio State has enjoyed record successes in several of our most important strategic markers and has tremendous momentum,” Drake said in the release. “It was important to Brenda and me that the university be accelerating on a path forward as we decided to begin the transition.” Drake led the university through a period of growth.
