Why Ohio State football’s College Football Playoff case relies on three quarters of dominance


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State football players and coaches answered several questions Tuesday about their readiness for a potential four-quarter battle against Penn State on Saturday. Those queries are so relevant because the Buckeyes have been so dominant over the first three quarters that their starters rarely play the fourth. That trend continued the past two weeks. Ohio State led Maryland 42-0, pulled most of its starters at halftime and won 73-14. It led Rutgers 42-7 after the first series of the third quarter, pulled it starters and won 56-21. At the end of the day, the Buckeyes’ trend of putting games away after 45 minutes explains why they remain the No. 2 team in the new College Football Playoff rankings, released Tuesday night.
